Dr. Melanie Windridge summits Everest to inspire the next generation of scientists.

In the early hours of Monday 21st May, as the sun rose across the Himalayas, Dr. Melanie Windridge achieved the incredible feat of reaching the summit of Everest.

“I feel privileged to have been able to walk in historical footsteps and experience such an extraordinary environment,” says Melanie. “I’ve seen pictures of Everest, films and books, but nothing compares to being there.”

This moment was the culmination of two months’ hard work, with Melanie’s goal to inspire young people – especially young women.

“The economy needs more science graduates and we especially need more women in science,” Melanie explains. “Studying science leads to meaningful, interesting and well-paid careers but many students are put off because they aren’t aware of the opportunities.

“I hope these stories will inspire young people and give them insight into careers and industries they may never have considered.”

Silver has supported Melanie on her journey, and the team was delighted to hear the news of her safe summit and return to the UK.

Graham Dodridge, Silver Chairman, sent our best wishes to Melanie, “Heartfelt congratulations on your spectacular summiting of Mount Everest to watch the sunrise at 04.30 in the morning. What an epic achievement. We look forward to hearing the stories of your adventure in due course.”
